The national charity Christians Against Poverty was founded in Bradford in 1996 by a former debt collector turned Christian and debt advisor called John Kirkby.
During this period CAP has
* Worked with clients in 100,000 homes.
* Given world-class debt advice to 80,000 people.
* Delivered debt solutions to 35,000 adults.
* Cleared over half a billion pounds of crushing debt
* Coached another 100,000 people in money management, life skills and into meaningful jobs.
Churches Together in Bury has a membership including 15 churches of various denominations. They originally set up The Bury Project as a Charitable Organisation (CIO) specifically to support a CAP debt centre.
Supporting Churches
We are grateful for support from various churches and individuals within churches in and around Bury.
This includes:

- Use of premises
- Events for fundraising or social client support
- Help with payroll administration.

All our Trustees and client Befrienders are volunteers and make valued contributions towards running our debt centre effectively.

We have about 27 regular individual donors who give monthly, and several others who give periodically. We are particularly grateful for this support, providing us with regular income, and would encourage others to give in this way.
